Oura Ring 5 Review
The same trusted sleep tracking, now in a slimmer design

If you’re looking for a sleep tracker you’ll actually enjoy wearing every day, the Oura Ring 5 is the one I’d recommend. It builds on everything that made the Oura Ring 4 one of my favourite sleep trackers, but delivers it in a slimmer, lighter design that feels noticeably more comfortable day and night.
The sleep tracking itself hasn’t changed dramatically, and I actually think that’s a good thing. You still get the excellent sleep, recovery, activity, and women’s health insights Oura is known for, but now they’re delivered in a ring that’s 40% smaller and feels more like jewellery than wearable technology. That’s why Sleep Scoop now recommends the Oura Ring 5 as our Best Overall Sleep Tracker.

Quick Tip:
The Oura Ring 5 is an excellent choice if you want premium sleep tracking in a slimmer, lighter smart ring you’ll happily wear day and night. It’s less suitable if you’re looking for a lower-cost tracker, don’t want a membership for deeper insights, or prefer a smartwatch with a screen.
Our Take
The Oura Ring 5 is our new Best Overall Sleep Tracker because it builds on everything we already loved about the Oura experience. The sleep tracking, recovery insights, and app remain among the best we’ve seen, while the slimmer, lighter design makes the ring feel noticeably more natural to wear every day.
I like that Oura didn’t try to reinvent the product. Instead, it refined it. The sleep tracking experience is remarkably similar to the previous generation, but the smaller design makes overnight wear feel more comfortable, especially if you’ve ever found smart rings a little too bulky.
There are still a few trade-offs to consider. You’ll get the most value from the optional membership if you want deeper long-term insights. And if you prefer checking your data on your wrist, a smartwatch may be a better fit. But if your priority is understanding and improving your sleep, we think the Oura Ring 5 is the best all-around sleep tracker available today.
What We Like
- Excellent sleep tracking that’s easy to understand
Oura turns overnight data into clear Sleep and Readiness Scores, making it easy to spot patterns and improve your sleep over time. - Smaller, lighter, and more comfortable to wear
At 40% smaller than the previous generation, the Ring 5 feels noticeably less bulky, making it easier to wear comfortably while you sleep and throughout the day. - Helpful health insights beyond sleep
Alongside sleep and recovery, Oura tracks activity, stress, heart health, and women’s health to give you a more complete picture of your wellbeing. - An app that makes your data useful
The app balances simple daily scores with deeper trends, helping you connect your habits with how you sleep and feel. - Longer battery life
Expect up to 6–9 days on a charge, so you can track your sleep every night without constantly thinking about the battery.
What To Know Before You Buy
- The optional membership unlocks the full experience
You’ll still see your basic scores without a membership, but deeper insights, trends, and personalized guidance require Oura’s monthly subscription. - Use the Ring 5 sizing kit before ordering
Ring 5 uses a redesigned sizing system, so even if you’ve owned an Oura Ring before, you should confirm your size with the new sizing kit. - Buying on Amazon
Oura Ring sizing is different from standard ring sizes. If you don’t already know your size, order the Oura Ring 5 sizing kit first and wear it for a full 24 hours. Once you’ve confirmed your size, you can confidently order your ring in the finish you prefer.
Before ordering the Oura Ring 5, use the new sizing kit to find your best fit. Even if you've owned an Oura Ring before, Ring 5 uses a redesigned sizing system.
What Does the Oura Ring 5 Track?
The Oura Ring 5 tracks the same core sleep, recovery, and wellness metrics as the Ring 4. The biggest changes are in the hardware, not the information you’ll see each morning.
Each night, it measures the things that matter most for understanding your sleep, including sleep stages, heart rate variability (HRV), resting heart rate, overnight blood oxygen, respiratory rate, body temperature trends, and movement. Rather than overwhelming you with charts, Oura turns that information into simple Sleep and Readiness Scores that are easy to understand and use.
What I appreciate most is that Oura helps you make sense of your patterns over time. Instead of focusing too much on one bad night, you can start seeing how things like stress, exercise, late meals, or alcohol affect your sleep. That’s where the Ring 5 becomes more useful: it helps you understand not just how you slept, but what might be getting in the way of better rest.
Considering Other Sleep Trackers?
Oura Ring 5 vs WHOOP 5.0
Choose the Oura Ring 5 if your main goal is improving your sleep with a comfortable, screen-free ring you can wear day and night. WHOOP 5.0 is a better fit if you care more about recovery coaching, athletic performance, and detailed training guidance.
Oura Ring 5 vs Fitbit Inspire 3
Choose the Oura Ring 5 if you want deeper sleep insights, a more polished app, and a premium wearable that feels more like jewellery than technology. Fitbit Inspire 3 is the better value pick if you want reliable sleep tracking and basic health data at a much lower price.
Oura Ring 5 vs Withings Sleep Pad
Choose the Oura Ring 5 if you want sleep, recovery, activity, and health insights in one wearable. Withings Sleep Pad is the better choice if you don’t want to wear anything at night and mainly want automatic sleep tracking from under your mattress.
Is the Oura Ring 5 Right For You?
If you’re looking for a sleep tracker you’ll happily wear every night, I think the Oura Ring 5 is an excellent choice. It combines outstanding sleep insights with a slimmer, lighter design that feels natural enough to wear every day without thinking about it.
That’s why Sleep Scoop now recommends the Oura Ring 5 as our Best Overall Sleep Tracker. Whether you’re buying your first smart ring or upgrading from an older model, it’s the one we’d recommend to most people looking to better understand and improve their sleep.

How We Choose our Picks
The Sleep Scoop team reviews sleep tech with real-life women’s sleep challenges in mind, prioritizing comfort overnight, ease of use, and insights that actually help you change habits. Our process varies by product type, but we always ask the same things: does it deliver, who is it best for, and is it worth the cost?
To answer these questions, we combine editorial research, real user feedback, and hands-on testing when possible. We look for patterns in long-term reviews across major retailers and app stores, including women’s feedback where available, and then cross-check what we find with product specs and expert context.
